Your daughter needs to report these people to the police, once she is out of their house with the baby. She really needs to get some sort of protection order. Maybe she can see an attorney about the situation?

It shouldn’t be that difficult to get a replacement birth certificate. Go to, or call, the government offices which store these documents and ask for information. I live in the USA, but anyone can get a certified copy of a birth certificate, they just have to pay for it.

Well, first things first…. there is no custody order, so your daughter can leave and can take her baby with her. If she needs to do it in the middle of the night… or slip out to the store, then so be it. Nobody can force her to give up the baby even if they do find her unless it is by court order. A police report, however, would be a good thing. If there is abuse and/or evidence of abuse, that should be documented and a restraining order put into place. Your other daughter’s testimony should be of assistance if necessary given that she, herself, came from that situation.

The birth certificate is not an issue at all. She is the mother, and is on record as such at the department of vital statistics… or whatever it is called in the UK. All she has to do is go in with her ID and order a new one. There may be a small charge for it… I’m unsure of that.

This all sounds like a bad made for TV movie, to be honest… but mothers have rights and the courts are there to help them keep those rights

Is "The Hudsucker Proxy" considered to be one of the all-time greatest films by anyone other than myself?
This Coen Bros. classic was largely overlooked owing to it’s wierd title, for starters. Tim Robbins, Paul Newman, Jennifer
Jason-Leigh…all tremendous performances. What about this movie makes it a personal favorite of yours?
Ok, for the curious and Valerie C, Hudsucker Proxy came out long ago, maybe ‘95, and, like Raising Arizona, the camera perspective shots are abundantly generous and unique.
I’m a musician, and this movie has my #1 vote for "compellingly driven by the soundtrack." I never buy a movie soundtrack just for the music (except Breakfast at Tiffany’s), but I would own this one, and it exists. But mostly, the fascination here is PLOT. You can’t miss the way the music is central to the storytelling. It’s dramatic and hilarious at the same time. Look for John Mahoney (Frasier’s Dad) as a central
character. I nearly weep at the brilliance of this production. And the ultimate stuggle between good and evil?…no good movie should NOT have one, and this movie delivers a grand slam.
Favorite Scenes: Tim Robbins at the job board…Two Taxi Drivers at the Lunch Counter…The Exotic Dream sequence at the advent of Norville’s morality shift….

I loved that movie! The thing I like about it is that it makes fun of itself as a movie. It’s not so much making fun of corporations and the 1950s, it’s making fun of movies themselves and all the cliches in a move about a guy who comes from a small town and achieves success in the Big City.

You’re right about the performances too. Tim Robbins and Jennifer Jason-Leigh were never funnier. Paul Newman is very good too. And I love the elevator operator who calls everyone ‘Buddy’.

The Coehn Bros. are geniuses. They have a wonderful gift for storytelling in unconventional ways, ways that can only be done in films (I guess you would call that ‘cinematic technique’). I think their work is a little over the heads of a lot of viewers. I think The Hudsucker Proxy will be remembered very well in 30 years when most other movies of its time are forgotten. Fargo and The Big Lebowsky are also brilliant films. And O Brother Where Art Thou.

Visual C++ Win32 API Problem: How to add text in edit box?
Here’s my problem:
I create a button, a large edit box and 2 small edit box on parent window.
The 2 small edit box is for name and ID.
I will type the name and ID and then the strings will be sent to the large edit box i mentioned before when I click the button..
My problem is, I can send those two strings using SendMessage() but then when I fill up the name and ID for a second time and click the button, the previous text will be replaced. How can I put the text on the large edit box WITHOUT replacing the previous text?? Is there any function other than SendMessage()?? Help me…………..

P/S: I don’t use MFC, I use API.

The easiest way is probably to keep a copy of the text that’s already in the text box. Then append your new text to the existing text, update your copy , and do the WM_SETTEXT like you do now.

If you don’t want to keep a copy, there is a WM_GETTEXT message. You could send GETTEXT, append the new data, then SETTEXT. You need so supply a buffer that’s big enough for the existing text.

how do you deal with a mom who really REALLY hates you?
