Have I ruined my life?
I’m 21 and a half. For the past 3 years I have been a disaster zone. I have had to drop out of university more than once due to illness and plain confusion/depression. I gave up on all of my dreams, I don’t even know why. It feels like everything’s falling apart. Everyone I know is about to graduate from university and move on to their bright future, to new things. I may not graduate until I’m 25. I can’t believe it. I am so scared, please help
I forget who I am.. I’ve let everyone down, especially myself

you will only ruin your life if you give up, 21 is not that old so what if you graduate at 25 I know many people right now because of the recession that have had to go back to school and will not graduate till 45! don’t give up on dreams just look at them and make sure you still like them

 ponitail 55 | Feb 01, 2010

I know some people who haven’t been to uni or haven’t graduated and their life turned out to be much better than those who have.

See a psychologist to help battle your depression, set your priorities straight then go back to uni if that’s what you really want.
alexis | Feb 01, 2010

ive been battling with depression for quite a while now. my worst was just last year, six months, when i entered college [its far from home and my closest friends studied somewhere else so..]. my brother is not really emotional but he also gets pretty down sometimes and he’s gonna graduate a year late. its hard, like youre conscious that your life is going nowhere yet you cant pick up yourself and move on. its like being trapped, and even if you really really want to go out, for some reason yo cant help but be tied down to thaT horrible feeling. everythings ruined. but i doing well right now. maybe im done adjusting with my new life or something, but i know the reason is because of my bestfriend who helped me, never left my side. maybe it would be better to find someone to confide to. someone you really trust. that way, youll have no reason to be scared, because someone who cares a lot about you is always there for you. im sure a lot of people love you, you mean a lot to the people around you. so never lose the will to live. thats very important. dont let down the people waiting for you. and most importantly, down let down yourself. youre a great person if you honestly believe in yourself.
PoT13 | Feb 01, 2010

Never give up. You have not ruined your life, you just don’t know any other way to look at what you have been through.
Please don’t judge your achievements against those of the people around you, those people are not living your life, you are, and to still be trying and hoping to get back to university is more of an achievement than you realise. Look, you just have to keep going, I think you ought to either see a doctor or perhaps a counsellor if you do have depression, you are bound to be struggling with everything, it is not realistic for you to expect life to be the same, you have to deal with the depression first, and that takes a looong time, but even so, that does not mean that it can’t be dealt with, or that you have ruined your life, or that all your hopes and dreams are dashed; you just need to go about achieving them a different way than you had planned, that’s all.
In actual fact, you have achieved a great deal, coping with depression is very very hard. If you graduate at 25, well so what? Who else does that actually effect except yourself, if you can accept that you will graduate at 25, well set that as your goal, after all they do say that reaching a goal is not the real prize, it’s what you learn on your way there that benefits you the most.
Please keep going, you have probably already developed your character way beyond other people your age, just by what you are dealing with on a daily basis, see that as an achievement and not a flaw and then start to look for a new way forward. Life never goes the way we expect it to but hold on to the belief that it will all work out for the best, because life does have a funny way of going the right way, the way that is right for YOU.
Your ps. Never think you are letting other people down by not achieving the goals you have set yourself, please stop beating yourself up for not being perfect. We all have setbacks in our lives, but they come to each of us at different times, you just can’t know what your life is going to bring you or the obstacles you are going to have to face but don’t live your life to please other people, work hard to overcome your problems and keep going. I don’t think you realise how much of an achievement it is to keep going when the odds are stacked against you or what a strong and determined character you are to still want to finish your studies despite everything you are going through; just accept that this is going to take time, that you’ll graduate a little later than you wanted perhaps but just knuckle down and get on with it!
no thanks | Feb 01, 2010

first of all, take a DEEP breath. and know this: you have NOT ruined your life. The fact that you care and are concerned about your future signals that you want a better future for yourself. And in order to do just that, all you need to do is come up with action plans and goals that you committ yourself and hold yourself accountable to. Don’t focus on the past and do the "what-if’s". Focus on the now. Who cares if you graduate when you’re 25? That’s still young. What’s making you partially depressed is the fact that your peers are about to graduate and by comparing yourself situation to others’, which you really don’t know if they’re happy just because they’re graduating on time, you’re pulling yourself down. So the first step is to stop comparing your life or the timeline your on to that of others. Just take it step by step and don’t care about what others think about your goals and dreams. Just do it. Believe in yourself and know that you deserve to be happy. Envision a future that you want and do something about it to create it. It will come to you with hard work and dedication.
yea why don’t u have sex it will change your life maybe find a partner.!
Origins | Feb 01, 2010

no, you haven’t… not until if you have really given up to live. as long as you live, hope is there, and will always be. giving up on your dream doesn’t mean your life is ruined, nor dropping out of uni is. everyone you know is about to graduate and move on to brighter future is because they have already found their goals in life, that’s why they are able to move on.

not able to graduate at age 25 is not wrong. there are some people graduating early, and there are some people don’t. so, don’t rush as it will get you nowhere, or rather it could be you who would be getting nowhere.

you’re just confused and lost, that’s what you are now. stop taking any chances. stop thinking about stuff, just stop everything you do. because what you should have be doing right now is to reclaim the dreams that you thought you have lost. yes, nothing is ever late to do anything, including finding back your dreams. you also shouldn’t rush fulfilling your dreams because you need to take these smaller steps to achieve your goals and to find your dreams.

you could also be like those older people (who are old enough to be your grandmas or grandpas) taking classes, if you want to. learning is never too late for anyone, not for you and not for us either.

so now, start your hunting for your dreams.

Why doesn't anyone realize that Nancy Pelosi is a huge hypocrite?
Hear me out on this one. OKAY, so Pelosi and the rest of her back assward Democrats keep saying that we need to drive more feul efficient cars, or use public transportation. Ms. Pelosi got sick of her private jet (That comes with the job of speaker of the house) because they had to stop halfway from DC back her home in California. She goes to DC and then back home three times week.
So instead of sticking with her private jet, she wanted to be able to go back without stopping. So she ordered to have her own Boeing 757 for her private use.
This is PAID FOR BY TAXPAYERS, THAT’S $60,000 ONE WAY.
People, that’s $480,000 a month in FUEL ALONE. Annually, that comes to about $5,760,000. And she wants to tax our IRA’s and 401(k)’s?
Keep in mind those costs are just in fuel of the plane, not in paying workers for their labor.
@Poopy Pants:
But wouldn’t her going against her own speakings make her not a good one? Don’t you think that the Speaker should practice what they preach?

Young Izzy (Leslie Andrews) is a girl with issues. Her parents may be dead. Her older brother is fighting in Iraq and she s raising her younger brother, Kevin, all by herself. Things are tough but, with the help of her motorcycle-riding friend Barney, she deals with her situation the best she can. Unfortunately, Izzy isn t exactly stable… and her way of dealing with life s problems includes finding people to torture and kill in the barn near the family home! When a trio of bullies picks on her brother Kevin at school, all hell breaks loose. The two that die are the lucky ones… This sick and twisted independent film from director Eben McGarr is filled with black humor, excellent performances and shocking scenes of extreme gore. SICK GIRL is low budget cinema at it s best IMDB.COM) and will have horror fans laughing and screaming with delight! Also watch for Stephen (FRIGHT NIGHT) Geoffreys, returning to the horror genre after a 19 year absence.

How can we fix our relationship when its falling apart?
So, if you didnt know, my boyfriend and I are 15 and 16 and we live together at my moms house. We have been together for 9 months and have lived together for 4 months.

I love my boyfriend with all my heart, but everything is just really messed up right now. He has a real problem with hitting on other girls and hes had one real "emotional affair" that I know of. He met a girl I used to go to school with over Facebook and they started talking allot, which at first I didnt mind, until I saw he had been blatantly flirting with her and her friend over Facebook and texting. I got really mad and asked him to stop. He said okay, but did it again the next day while I was out, which caused another huge fight where he again, agreed to not flirt with her anymore.

Well its been about a week or so later and hes still talking to her. I havnt seen anything that I would consider "flirting" but it still really bugs me that he talks to her. I dont trust him talking to girls at all because of his history and the fact that hell talk to her for hours on end and tell her personal stuff makes it worse. Before I caught him flirting with her, he used to always talk about wanting to hang out with her and yesterday he went to visit her at her work without me.

Ill admit, I have really bad jealousy issues with everyone, but I really dont think Im being irrational with my worries here. Ive asked him not to talk to her anymore, but he just wont. He puts up a fight every time I ask him not to do something with her (like talk to her for three hours straight while Im sitting with him, bored), which makes me think even more that he either likes her or is going to end up liking her. Im really scared of losing him, but its like in my attempts to make sure I dont it just pushes him away even further.

Yesterday he showed me that song "Moving Mountains" by Usher and he said thats how he feels. He keeps telling me theyre just friends and he doesnt like her that way, but as much as I try I just cant believe him. This has caused so many fights and a huge amount of tension on our relationship. We dont kiss and hug or even spend that much time together anymore and (not to get too graphic) but we havnt had sex in a long time. I just feel really hurt and worried and kind of betrayed, and Im sure hes getting really sick and tired of the way Im acting.

Sorry this is so long, but I really need help? I cant lose him.
What do we do?
Thanks, but breaking up is not an option. I am in love with him. I dont want anyone else.

And the only reason he lives with me is his mom kicked him out and he has no where else to go.

ur 15 and he lives with you???
i think that u guys should break up. because u’ve talked to him and he’s still hanging on to that other girl. if it were me, i would hate to have to always be fighting for my boyfriend everyday. he’s just gonna cause u excessive and unwanted pain.
honey, please break up with him.

all the best!
Alexa | Feb 08, 2010

Ok my answer to these types of questions is communicatioin is #1 in all relationships. If you have told him how you feel about the situation, irrational or not, he should respect your wishes. IF this continues to happen behind you back after you have asked him not to do so then you have problems. Right now it sounds like a good friendship that he has and you are a little jealous which is understandable because you are young, tell him how you feel and work out a plan of action TOGETHER not just a one sided argument by you.
Nimistad | Feb 08, 2010

you are 15 and 16 and i cant believe your parents let you live together. I say move on sweetheart. You are too young to worry about this. Enjoy being a kid. Enjoy high school and flirt with other boys and make good grades, go to college and find your real soul mate and fall in love, get a good job, get married and have children. Don’t worry about all this stuff now.
lisa_bsb | Feb 08, 2010

First off - re-evaluate your relationship with this boy. Why don’t you want to lose him ? Fear of being alone, or truly not wanting him out of your life. I know breaking up would be hard since he lives with you, but sometimes you gotta to what you gotta do.

By talking to her for hours on end, right in front of you is completely inconsiderate of him. Tell him that. Tell him how his behavior makes you feel. Tell him you don’t want to lose him, but you can’t be with him if he doesn’t respect you and your feelings.

how do you deal with a mom who really REALLY hates you?
well now im not even sure if she is my mom… she cusses at me and calls me a insane bitc* and she kicks at my back and stomach and stuff when she gets mad and she pulls my hair really hard and she does that to my little brother who is six years old. i once fed him too much milk and he began to puke and mom got really mad and begin screamin and kickin and started to hit me with my flute and hairbrush but the brush broker so she hit me with my flute then she told me to strip (i personally think she belongs in a isolation cell) and go outside the house. then she locked the door… well thank God no one was outside it was really late at that time.. and when my little bro hits me and do somethin with my stuff and if i push him to make him go out and stuff and he tells mom she makes him hit me back and when i try to explai she tells me to shut the fuc* up. shes like SO ANNOYING!!! i told my dad he already knows my dad is like really nice but he’s worried that if we turn her in to the police or get divorced we’ll have a really hard life (im eleven) but i think that if moom goes away i’ll live better. she doesnt even talk to me and ignores me when i talk to her about pickin me up for skool for band and violin practices and stuff. she once threw a mini-xylophone at me and ih hit the wall and made a huge mark on the wall. and now i lost my flute on monday and it cost about $800 and she’s mad and she really hinks that i lost it on purpose an when i told her i had a concert next tuesday and rehearsal on monday and it’s a grade she was like oooh this is soooooo great! you’re gonna get a F you bitc*! good for you! did u hear that, Ryan (im gunna change my lil bro’s name)? she’s gonna get and F and fail sixth grade!
she is MENTAL im not kidding UGH!! wat should i do? i mean i tell myself to call the cops everytime she beats me up but i get scared and stuff so i cant do it. like she is SO annoying like when she lectures Ryan she eventually says "do u want 2 b like that bitc* over there?" and says things bout me. and she assumes things and if we dont tell her wat she thinks we did when we do somethin bad she’ll beat us up so much-and i said US,Ryan and me-we might faint. the more annoying thing is that whenever mom says something bout me Ryan AGREES!! my life is so annoying the only time i feel fine is at school where i’m popular. and the scary thing is that my mom acts really nice outside, and if everyone finds out about my mom there going to abandon me. i know my friends wouldn’t do that but i dont rrust anyone anymore. what should i do now? i can’t stand it anymore.
well we’re Koreans and my dad got transferred here so we gotta go back in a year cuz we’re not US citizens but if they get divorced how is dad supposed get a new mom and stuff? im rly worried about my dad and his job cuz he’s a rly responsible adult and we’re in the middle class which means that were livin fine but if he gets divorced i think he said he’s gunna quit his job
i dont have any proof on my body because mom if rly careful about it but i have the mark on my room wall.
i also want a new mom so i can have a real mom who loves me but i dont know if there r any koreans or americans who speak korean cuz well my dad is rly good at speakin English ut is accent is like THICK

if your father won’t do it. you call the cops, if you have proof [marks on your body] it will help, if she doesn’t get locked up then they’ll find you another place to live in.

abuse should NEVER be tollerated.
and don’t listen to anything she says about you, she sounds crazy :/

 tom riddle | May 02, 2009

Oh my God. Your mom sounds horrible! Tell your dad to immediately take you and your brother with him and have your mother committed! What she does to you and to your little brother IS NOT RIGHT. She can be jailed for child abuse for the things she has done to you. Please know that you have the power and capability to end your pain and suffering. Tell your dad what you just told us. I’m CERTAIN that he’ll leave your mom immediately and take you and your brother with him. Please do it as soon as possible. You shouldn’t be subjected to this kind of unimaginable treatment.

EDIT: And I agree with millston. If your dad doesn’t do anything about it, call the cops!
Amber | May 02, 2009

Oh girl!!!! Why??? I just have to ask why your mom had children…dont worry, you will be okay! I know this because you are reaching out and already realize that the things your mom does are WRONG…they are not just wrong they are SICK!! I would love to tell you to call 911 because that is the answer, however I do understand that at 11 years old…that is all you have known and what will happen next if you do make that call. I will answer you this…a lot of bad would happen in the beginning after you make that call (I dont think it would be EASY for anyone) but in the end you and your brother will be better people for it and as you get older your brother would thank you for it. My heart goes out to you and your brother…please remember, you may not have that many more years left there, but what is going to happen to your brother when you leave and he is still there in the mysery without you for the following 5 years??? Please keep in touch on this subject..I wish I could help you:(
Frozen in time and forever cursed to be mangled and decayed, he took refuge with his widowed mother in an abandoned shack.
What are your opinions on euthanasia?
we dicussed this in my english class last week and im not sure what to think about this. (we were reading the novel of mice and men)

I’ve never read that book so I can’t discuss anything from it directly, but here is my view on euthanasia.
If it is someone who is terminally ill with no chance of recovery and they want to die to avoid a poor quality of life then that should be their own decision, and it should be legal. An example of that would be a cancer patient that is in constant pain and unable to live their life.
Also, if someone is brain dead and on life-support, and they will never recover, then killing them is the most humane thing, and it clears up a bed for someone who has an actual chance of surviving.
special! | Feb 04, 2010

I think about it this way, if you see your pet dog suffering, and he wants to die, you can see it in his eyes that he is suffering, and is eventually going to die, and has no chance to live, it would be in his best interest to be put to sleep, right?

Same thing with humans. I think that if your really sick, and suffering. And you are going to end up dying from what ever you have, and you want to be put out of your misery, that you should be put to rest. I would want the same done for me if I am suffering about to die. I wouldn’t want to have my last moments end in pain and suffering. I would rather just be put down, were as if I was left suffering, it really wouldn’t be fair on me.

When Lenny was shot to death, his friend did it to take care of him. Because Lenny killed the one dudes wife, he was going to end up being beaten to death, and he would have suffered. Chances are they would beat him so bad that he wouldn’t die right off, and when they would leave him, he’d still be alive, and eventually die, a slow painful death.

Lenny’s friend actually saved him a lot of pain in the end. I would want the same done for me. Wouldn’t you?
Chey | Feb 04, 2010

Lenny was going to die regardless..in that day of age, in that environment, with all the misunderstanding, George knew damn well he wasn’t going to let him die the death they would give, cause they weren’t going to give him a quick and painless one. The sad thing is their getting all riled up (people chasing lenny and george) yet notice several things in the book..the girl didn’t even have a name…no-one cared about her..Steinbeck was showing the different parts of society at this time and women were very much under appreciated.
as for euthanasia - for pets its okay when done well (Chambers=no) that are suffering and going to die. My friend had a dog that was like 20, was turning to skin and bones because of age, could barely move, and eventually was suffering to move around…it hardly ever moved..it was put down. though, many many healthy fine pets die every year, hundreds of thousands, because of shelter overpopulation. it’s unavoidable, there is simply no place to go for the animals. a good shelter contacts other rescues beforehand but that still isn’t enough.
as for humans, in Lenny’s case it was sad, but most people have a decision or by their family..I don’t here of people euthanasia much, but I figure there are obvious times for it to be done, as well as veryvery debatelble times…
..even though we are overpopulated we are not ‘treated like dogs’. (even though we cause their(dogs) overpopulation by being irresponsible. this is a recurring trend, one thing you will realize in life is that people are very very stupid.)

edit to answer below me: I agree I am surprised the english teacher (I’m guessing? or a student brought it up?) euthanasia in relation to mice and men. I don’t think Steinbeck was trying to make a point on it.
? Stranger ? in Indiana | Feb 04, 2010

"Euthanasia" is premeditated murder pure and simple. I don’t see how the murder of Lenny in "Of Mice and Men" could have any relevance to a Euthanasia debate. Euthanasia advocates as a rule only hope to victimize people that are "going to die anyway." The truth is, we’re all going to die anyway. Just because someone is dying a bit faster than we are is no reason to hurry them along. If you want to kill yourself, that’s called suicide; that’s another debate.

Would two 5400 RPM IDE hard drives in RAID 0 perform better than a single 7200 RPM IDE hard drive?
I have four 120GB WD1200 hard drives. They are all IDE/PATA and run at 5400 RPM. I plan on creating two sets of RAID 0 with them. I am wondering whether the performance I would achieve from this RAID setup would be greater than what I would achieve with a standard 7200 RPM IDE/PATA or not.

The RAID will be lots faster as the maximum bandwidth of each IDE port when RAIDed will be far greater than the bandwidth of a single drive.
